Brandon Baird
SPAN
I highly encourage taking this course. Baird is super understanding and kind. The course was exciting, and we got to study the way we understand how we speak and why we speak the way that we individually do. Highly recommend.
I took this since it was a neuroscience elective and I'm a neuro major, and I really enjoyed it. Prof. Baird is a great lecturer and his class and teaching style were very enjoyable, as well as extremely interesting. I'd always wanted to take a linguistics course but never had, and the material was so foreign to me but he did a great job introducing everything and laying the foundations before moving to more complicated and in-depth topics. We had weekly homework/assignments, labs where we learned to use Praat (sound analyzing software), three exams and a final project. The final exam I remember being a little more difficult than the first two midterms, but if you study and do the readings/take notes, you'll be fine. It was also only a 200-level class so it wasn't very difficult overall. Would very much choose to take a class with Prof. Baird again if given the chance, and I would definitely recommend this class!

This class was fairly easy, you had weekly homework assignments and 3 tests that were take-home. There was also a final 4 page paper on a topic of your choosing. Most of the lectures were easy to follow and were also interesting.
