This class was a fascinating cover of American Foreign Policy, from the time of George Washington to the current Pentagon framework and foreign policy objectives, with projections into the future. Professor Stanger is a brilliant educator who connects with her students and shows love for them and her content. This class will challenge you to think and read and write like no other, but the reward is high. Reading per week can range from 300-1000 pages per week, with a 100-1500 word reading summary to write. The midterm and final are large papers that hold much of your grade. Active participation is required and graded, but all of this helps keep the class flowing and so valuable. Discussion sections are fascinating and you learn so much from her guided discussions and your peers. Professor Stanger lets her students duke it out and debate to their best abilities across lecture hall and all throughout discussion, all the while maintaining are careful watch. The lectures set the groundwork for so much new learning, and the course as a whole will probably be the best I take at Middlebury. Would heavily recommend to those willing to take the plunge.

Class was very reading heavy, up to 200 pages per class, but very interesting material which causes for a good trade off. Class time is mostly spent towards discussion of material and or other world issues.
Allison Stanger is an icon for a reason. This class was relatively unstructured, and lectures often turned into discussions. She loves to stir the pot and let people duke it out, but isn't afraid to step in and fact check people as needed. I learned so much, both from her and my classmates.
