Consciousness In this course we will focus on recent philosophical issues in the study of consciousness:  What is the nature of our conscious subjective experience?  What is the function of conscious states?  Can we find neural correlates of consciousness, and if so, can consciousness simply be reduced to them?  If not, how does consciousness relate to the physical?  Is there something irreducible about the qualitative features of consciousness (qualia)?  Could computers ever be conscious?  Are animals conscious?  We will consider such questions through the writings of contemporary philosophers and neuroscientists such as Dennett, Chalmers, Churchland, Nagel, Damasio, and Searle.  (PHIL 0352 is strongly recommended but not required).

I took the class to fill a requirement so I could only make it what I put into it. The teacher was chill but the information is difficult of you don't keep up with it, it build on itself and once you start slacking you are really only endangering yooureself.

The course was great, there were weekly mini-papers and readings, so be prepared to read a lot. There is a midterm and final which are both take home! He is a fair grader as well. There is a 10 page final paper that is due at the end of the semester. Start it early!
