The Buddhist Tradition
The Buddhist Tradition Buddhists “take refuge in the three jewels”: the Buddha, his teachings, and the community he founded. After a grounding in the context and content of early Buddhism, we will use texts and images to explore these three categories and what they have meant to Buddhists in different times and places. We will pay special attention to changing views of the Buddha, later developments in Buddhist thought and practice, and the spread of the Buddhist tradition throughout Asia and beyond, which has involved adaptation to a startling array of cultures and societies – as well as modernity.
I love Prof Morrison, she is always very kind and understanding. She will accommodate you if you can't make office hours and will always do her best to help you write good papers. She does expect you to do readings, and the class does rely on its discussion session to be fairly student led.
I learned a lot through this course and I loved every class. The lectures are engaging and even when the readings are hard, Professor Morisson does a great job of explaining them in class. There's always an opportunity to ask questions, especially in the discussion sections and I am always amazed at how the professor seems to have a ready answer to any question, no matter how broad or specific it is. I'm very satisfied with this course overall.

Professor Morrison is a very nice mentor. Though more than 30 students are taking this course, every student still has the opportunity to ask her any questions. Learning is driven by reading historical documents, understanding the content, and posing questions. Good choice to fulfill distribution requirements.
Professor Morrison is very approachable and helpful. Her course covers content that provide basic knowledge for people not familiar to the topic and in depth information for people who wanted to know more. There's quite a lot of readings, but they are well selected.
The class was so fun. I think that is the beauty of liberal art college. I learned a lot about Buddhism. It was really interesting to hear different views. We had an exam, essay and a presentation. Every friday there is discussion session
