Like all the other Japanese courses, this one is very heavy with homework and focuses on the Tobira textbook. Everyday we had new homework, and we usually had quizzes and tests for every new chapter. However, the kanji quizzes are held after the readings, not before, meaning you will struggle if you only study the kanji for each chapter only when the quiz days are coming up. Work for the class was kind of hit or miss, with some being confusing with the instructions, not having been posted to Canvas, or just not worth doing. Your 2 lowest grades can be dropped, so make sure to use them if they're not worth it

I knew nothing about Okinawa or their literature work before, but this course is a really nice introduction to Okinawan and Japanese literature in general. The stories are fun to read, and the grading is really chill! Would definitely recommend this to someone looking to fulfill their distribution requirement but don't want too much workload.
I took this class mainly because I am interested in the Japanese Studies major. Professor Wang is incredibly understanding and accommodating of students' needs and always ensured that her grading criteria are clear. Readings were assigned weekly alongside discussion posts.
