William Waldron
I would not recommend this class AT ALL. I am currently taking it, and I had to just tell everyone how horrible it is now that I'm in it. You can feel how lost everyone is in this course. We're going to take our second exam next week, and he still hasn't given us back our first one from weeks ago. He acts as if everyone comes to this class with an understanding of Buddhism, how Asian countries operate, and their history, when this is a beginner course. He has in-class exams when it's so obvious that this is supposed to be a class with papers instead. He seems to just do whatever he feels like instead of caring about what the students would benefit from.

I enjoyed taking this class with Professor Waldron. He was clearly very enthusiastic about what he was teaching, which made the material more engaging. The tests were pretty easy, and he would pretty much tell you what was going to be on it, other than vocab, which caught a lot of people off guard on the first exam. The prompt for the in-class essay is fully given. One issue I had for the course is that there isn't much transparency on your grade since he doesn't post anything on canvas.

Professor Waldron's lectures are dry at some points but he is very knowledgable and interested in the subject matter. There was no regular assignments, but instead your grade is made up of participation and four in class writing assignments. You will be given the prompt beforehand, and the writings are from memory, no notes allowed. There is a meditation component every Friday to have an opprotunity to see mindfulness for yourself. This is taught by a local teacher, and is a very relaxed experience. You will need to keep a journal for each of these meditations though.
