I really enjoyed this course overall. We had a total of 6 fieldtrips that were really fun, the 3-hour sessions without fieldtrips can be a little tiring but thankfully Will knows how to make everyone laugh and also incorporates a lot of group work into lessons. The two heavily research-based papers are also not too tough if you are willing to do the work, make suggested edits and drop by office hours when stuck. This is the class that I have enjoyed the most during my first semester here at Midd.

Really liked Will, he had an avid enthusiasm for the course, lots of writing and editing and rewriting but we also took a lot of cool field trips, so balanced itself out. Honestly really enjoyed the class
Will is a great professor. This was a brand new course when I took it, so there were definitely some kinks that had to be worked out, but overall I enjoyed it. Will recognized that some of the papers, lectures, assignments, and lessons didn't work well for the course and plans to change them for future iterations. For every class, we either had to watch lecture videos and come to class with questions, or read a really complex scientific paper on earthquakes. After taking the class, I felt like I had a good grasp on seismic risk, different kinds of faults and earthquakes, and since it was a CW, I got the chance to practice my writing quite a bit. Assignments included several research papers, participation, and lots of small little grades.
