Tim Juvshik

I had a really fun time in this course. Though i think that comes from a love of the subject itself, if you don't enjoy it its going to be a tough journey. Make sure to not get behind on reading though, because everything in cumulative.

This is one of those classes where if you are good at it, it will be a walk in the park. If you struggle, however, it can be really easy to fall behind. If you are good at puzzles and pattern recognition, this will be such an easy class. Its also a great way to fulfill the DED distribution without actually taking a math class. Tim is the best. Super engaged with the students, and brought snacks to the exams!

I wasn't sure what to expect with this class, as I was mainly taking it for the DED distribution requirement, but Professor Juvshik was great! He clearly knows the subject well and is very accomodating to students and helpful in explaining more challenging proofs. He's also just funny, and definitely keeps the class entertaining, which makes it more enjoyable. While I do like math, this class was definitely difficult (don't be fooled that it's in the philosophy department, it's a math class). I always struggled with proofs in geometry, and proofs are a big component of this class. The class also builds as the semester goes on, so the second half is definitely more challenging and you need to make sure you're actually doing the weekly homework/reading because if you don't understand stuff from the first week then it will just get progressivley more confusing because everything is related. But Professor Juvshik genuinely wants students to succeed, and doing the homework/review sessions is a big help to just get that repetitive practice and make things make sense. I can't say logic is terribly relevant to pretty much any other subject, so I don't know if I'll be using the actual content we learned in future classes, but this class definitely helped build problem solving skills and critical thinking, which is widely applicable to many disciplines.
