Tanya Byker

Econ and gender was one of my favorite classes i've taken at Midd. Maybe because of the course content but mostly because of Professor Byker. She is so effective in her teaching methods that I actually wanted to go to class at 8 in the morning.

The content in this course is boring, and the lectures can make you sleepy, but Prof. Byker is very passionate about this topic and does a great job explaining the concepts and models needed for success in the class. There are no challenging economic concepts in this course compared to other Econ electives as it is a joint class with gender studies, this made for easy papers and homework that are based on the concepts and basic models. Not the most interesting class, but worthwhile to complete the requirement for the Econ major.

I thought Professor Byker did a great job teaching this class. She took economic concepts and tied it into gender to explain a lot of trends that happen. The exams are fairly easy and straightforward. So long as you're prepared, you will be fine. Problem sets are also pretty straightforward and simple. The readings are pretty short and you do have to answer a few questions after every reading, but they do not take a whole lot of time. Overall, it's a good class and a great elective for applying economic concepts to social issues.
