Suzanne Gurland

I did not have a good experience in this class. I was engaged during the lectures and felt that I understood what was going on, but the exams were nothing like anything we had done in class. They were way harder and I felt like we didn't have adequate practice for them. We never really had homework except for the labs but I think some more reinforcement of the material was needed because I'm leaving this class without knowing how to do a lot of the things we were supposed to learn. Professor Gurland is a nice professor and has good humor, but really lacked at explaining topics well and then reciprocating what she teaches us on her exams. In lab she also tried to get us to "figure out" how to do all of these statistical tests, rather than just giving us the steps of how to do them. If you've taken AP stats, you'll do fine, but if not it's going to be a struggle.

Gurland is such an amazing instructor. She is very kind and funny, it's so pleasant to be in her class. The exams were challenging for me and sometimes felt harder than the class example but otherwise, it was a great course!

This is the best course I have taken at Middlebury. I learned a lot and found the course content to be interesting. Prof. Gurland is so awesome and she is extremely passionate about what she does. Office hours are helpful and she is always willing to meet with you to talk. Exams were hard but manageable.
