Sarah Stroup
This was probably one of the best and most memorable classes that I've taken at Middlebury. The course mainly consisted of readings, a couple of reflections, and a final project, the fodder for which came from our spring break trip to Northern Ireland. We were given the opportunity to learn about The Troubles in depth, guided by the expert hands of our tour guides, one of whom was former British Army and the other former IRA. The course not only revealed the complexity of conflict resolution but imparted us with a deeper appreciation for building relationships, dialogue, and intellectual humility.

Man this class was an amazing gem that made my semester. Stroup is dope. The stuff we were introduced to was pretty interesting to me, and I learned a good bit without being slammed by readings and writings and stuff. Overall a good time.
Prof. Stroup is very passionate about conflict transformation and highly knowledgeable in the field. However, what we've learned feels quite idealistic, and I'm not sure I can apply it effectively in real life. We were asked to learn 'skills' from the readings and practice them in class, but I feel that we need to focus more on theory during class to deepen our understanding of conflict transformation, rather than just practicing these skills.
