Sam Ostrow
Professor Ostrow is amazing, and I really enjoyed how the class was structured around open discussions. We spent a lot of time unpacking the readings, and even though it’s an architecture class, the content wasn’t overly technical or full of jargon. It’s a very accessible and holistic course where anyone can contribute meaningfully. He never cold-calls, so no need to stress about that. Each week, you create a collage based on the readings, and there’s also a group project and a final project. The Friday lab runs for three hours, but we often finished early or gets cancelled. I highly recommend this class—it’s genuinely so cool to be taught by a practicing architect who only teaches one course a semester. Everything feels grounded and relevant.

This course primarily entails readings, collage-making, and one or two bigger group projects. The collages were a weekly assignment using PhotoShop or physical means and were the bulk of the work for the class. Otherwise, Sam is great and chill, and very accommodating. He really wants to teach and for you to succeed above all. Great chance to explore cool projects in the area and create some of your own.

the experience has been distinct from other architecture courses. Sam is an incredible instructor who brings real-world insights and practical skills to each lesson, making the class more hands-on and engaging than typical theoretical courses. The workload is more time-consuming than usual yet rewarding.
