Ruth Hardy
I took this course out of personal interest but without much experience of public policy nor gender studies, and found the course challenging but enjoyable. The research part of the final policymaking project took a lot of time and confusion for me personally, but Sen. Hardy was really helpful when I went to her office hours. The class discussions could go somewhat more insightful and structured, and the quality of feedback one receives on their created policy for the final project is largely dependent on the engagement of their peers. Overall this is a great experience getting familiar with the policy making process at the state level, and the guest speakers invited to the class & the event opportunities were a real blast.

We talked about interesting and relevant topics in this class. It was very project based, so we wrote our own bills and had a "mock" senate session to discuss them. Although it felt a little silly at times, the class was easy and interesting.
This was hands down one of the best courses I've taken at Midd. Lectures were always incredibly interesting and engaging, and guests from VT legislature were inspiring to hear and learn from. I learned a lot about government and policy, especially in Vermont, and got a sense that there might actually be some people in government who really know what they're doing. Ruth is incredibly supportive and a wonderful professor. 10/10 would recommend.
