One of the best classes I have had at Middlebury. 10/10 recommended. Taking it over jterm was a bit intense but it was very rewarding and it paid off since it gave me the technical skills to keep up with all the new A.I stuff.
This course is probably never going to be taught again. I felt that this course was extremely bad at teaching students' skills they needed. The instructor's teaching style didn't feel great. Additionally, the basics were never really understood, leading to more complex things not making any sense. I am understanding deep learning more in my machine learning class and it's not even the main focus of that class.

This class was a lot of work, but I felt that I learned so much from it. Teal encourages the use of resources like ChatGPT for simple coding, saying he prioritizes students learning the concepts rather than spending time on basic code. That said, it felt like sometimes he expected us to know much more than we did, in a way forcing us to use Generative AI just to pass the class. I think this is a class where how much you learn entirely depends on how much effort you put in. If you put in the effort to really understand the course material in every lecture, you will learn so much about the field of deep learning.
