Obie Porteous

I actually really enjoyed this class. Professor Porteous is very effective in his teaching style - clear and concise in explaining concepts. I definitely got a lot out of this course. It was very fast-paced though, but as long as you take good notes and make sure you review the concepts before/after class then you will be fine. Professor Porteous is notorious for being a tough grader, but if you truly understand the material, you'll do good in the exams.

The class material is difficult and because the class is so fast paced, it can be hard to keep up. Prof. also started cold-calling which makes it difficult for people like me who need time for new info to digest before being able to spit out information. He's really nice and is obviously very knowledgeable but not super helpful unless you have very specific questions.

The problem sets were significantly more difficult than the exams. It's a required course, you get what you get and you can't really get upset. Professor Porteous was always available at office hours to go over tricky concepts and his problem sets and lectures were engaging, if dense.
