Obie Porteous
Prof Porteous has taught this class for many years and definitely knows what he's talking about. The class was fast paced but taught clearly and effectively. A lot of people are intimidated by his cold calling but I honestly didn't mind that part because it made people more engaged and was very low-stress and 0-stakes. He definitely does not give direct answers in office hours but I did find working with other students during this time was essential for success in this class.

This course was a requirement, but I really loved it. I learned a ton and it really helped clarify what I want to do moving forward. All of the subject matter was interesting and I still feel like I have a strong command of the material over a year later. The class is also one of the few classes where it’s mostly only IP&E majors, so the community was really enjoyable. Great experience!

Professor Porteous is very passionate about the class and overall is a nice guy but the structure makes it hard to get a good grade. There are 7 problem sets graded for accuracy and exams are difficult. There is a final paper and no participation grade, with the minimum grade for an A being a 94.0 this makes it difficult but achievable.
