Obie Porteous
The prof is obviously very passionate about his work. It was a pleasure taking his class. However those reading quizzes are a bane my existence. The quizzes are done every single class. The readings are long, so good luck trying to memorize every detail in fear of seeing it on the quiz
I enjoyed taking IPEC with Obie; he was a kind and understanding professor whose teaching methods were productive and inclusive. Homework was tough, but it challenged and improved my knowledge of the coursework.
Interesting class for sure, and the professor actually listened when we told him there was a night with a bit too much assigned reading and he adjusted the rest of the unit's homework. There are a few "assignments" for homework instead of the typical reading, and those tend to take a while, but there are only a handful throughout the semester. The tests can be difficult, but he curves them appropriately so the average usually turns out fine. He's obviously very passionate about the material and knows it super well, so he's an engaging lecturer. The only thing is that the entire class time is dedicated to going over the readings you did the night prior, so it can sometimes feel repetitive.
