my favorite class ever. Mark and Monica are so knowledgeable in different ways and compliment each other so well. I came into this course not caring about birds whatsoever. I don't think I could have identified a chickadee. Now I feel so excited to hear a song and identify it. I've definitely discovered a new hobby for life. I loved both lectures and labs. This course was EXTREMELY memorization-heavy but I didn't mind since it all felt relevant and applicable. Like at a certain point yeah, you do have to memorize these birds. If you put in the work you'll do well for sure.

This class is awesome!! It was fun having Mark and Monica co teach because they have very different teaching styles so you get a nice blend. Lab was so fun because most of it was just birding. There is a decent amount of work outside class but if you like birds like me its fun work.

Monica is the best!! Mark's teaching style is not my favorite (fast-paced, vocab heavy) but I still learned a lot. Mark's section of exams are mostly memorization of the lecture material, while Monica's sections are more applied ecology concepts. Labs were fun and pretty easy. My favorite part about this class is that I can now identify most birds in Vermont!
