Meaghan Winder
This course does move a bit quicker than I had expected, but the formatting of material and teaching made up for that fact. I had taken AP Stat in high school but the material review at the start of the course easily accommodates anyone without any background in statistics. The reading usually wasn't too bad, and as long as you did them, the application practice during class clarifies anything you might struggle with. The projects were tricky at first because it's a brand new concept, but Mrs. Meaghan will help you throughout the process if you take the time to go to her office hours. The projects themselves build on top of one another as they are all statistical reports, thus making it so the material really solidifies throughout the semester. She is very passionate about statistics and that really shows with her teaching as well as during office hours (which were also very flexible and accessible). If you're partial to mathematics, you'll enjoy this class!

Alex's teaching style is very engaging, and despite the morning lectures being packed, he was still accommodating to our needs. We were taught the basics of RStudio and its applications, completing a project in the afternoon session. You are usually walked through what to do, making it easy for anyone to follow along with the class.
As someone with no prior experience in statistics or data science this class was very fast-paced and challenging. I had to go to office hours a lot because it was hard to get questions answered in class. Professor Winder is invested in her students' learning and understanding and she seems like she really cares. Most of the class is project based and you could work in a group for 4 out of 5 of the projects. There were reading quizzes almost every class which were hard but they weren't that much of our overall grades. You definitely can't miss a lecture or skip the reading because you will fall behind quickly.
