Marguerite Lenius
This course covered way too much material spanning way too many years. We had a constant rotation of different professors teaching guest lectures which at times were interesting but also quite boring. Lenius only specialized in African art, everything else you would be better off learning on your own from YouTube. The exams were ridiculous and required insane amounts of memorization (a third of the class got in the C range). The positives are that Lenius allowed the last exam to be optional, and the homework did not have to be done. If you are taking this class, take it with friends you can study with, and do not expect to leave with a great foundation in art history.

Great course if you are interested in art history- it is taught by rotating professors in the HARC department, which allows you to get a sense of other professors' teaching styles and passions. This being said, the content being out of chronological order was confusing at times, and the course definitely covered a huge range of history. There was a lot of reading, and knowing the main points of the extra articles was essential for doing well on the exams, but if you are interested in the topic, it wasn't too bad. Prof. Lenius was very passionate and patient.

This class is one that should only be taken if absolutely required for your major/minor. The scope is far too broad (~20,000 yrs) to be a real art history class. The rapid nature of the material makes it impossible to follow, and skipping hundreds of years between classes gives whiplash. Adapting to numerous teaching styles and assignments is difficult. I will note this is a distinct feature of the class, not a product of the teaching. Prof. Lenius is very passionate and knowledgeable, but the task before any professor is enormous. Would not recommend.
