This class being labeled as an intro level course is pretty deceiving. The material is highly specific and dives into great deal into very particular subject matter. The workload in this class is very high, there is a large amount of readings and in order to do well in the class you have to stay on top of ALL readings and truly be able to recall details from them. Both the midterm and the final exam were quite difficult and demand both large amounts of memorization and ability to synthesize documents together. Prior to the final examination a review session was hosted which I personally found helpful. Overall I would only recommend this class to someone who is confident in their ability to read and digest large amounts of text on a regular basis, in addition to having a high interest specifically in the history of China between the 18th and 20th centuries.

The class was well structured and I enjoyed learning about the topic even while the class was very difficult. I found it hard to fully understand everything needed for the tests, however this could be my own thinking. The course itself gives lots of requirements towards graduation however, so if you need to fill your schedule and like writing notes this is the class to take.
I thought Professor Clinton very clearly cared about this material and her passion showed through her work. Highly recommend the course if you are interested in the topic or need a class for your schedule. The professor cares a lot and you will learn applicable material!
