Laurie Essig
I think this is a great intro to the GSFS department. The readings are very relevant to current times, although difficult. The papers and projects are very chill. Laurie is an amazing professor. I would recommend to anybody interested in understanding the origins of gender, sexuality and challenging the very concepts.
The course has a lot of readings, and some of them can be difficult and abstract, but Laurie is very helpful in explaining the concepts. The course fulfills CW credit with only one paper; the first half is written using readings from the first half semester, and the second half is from the rest of the semester.
This course was, overall, an interesting experience. The professor, although sometimes helpful, did not always provide clear feedback. She also requires submitting reading notes and will judge them. Her readings are not always applicable, and it is required that you talk in class. Fair grader and mostly cares if you participate, but not as interesting as it sounds.
