This course was incredibly interesting and really kept me engaged throughout. I took this course out of personal interest, and it did not disappoint. Povitz is an incredible professor, she has so much knowledge and enthusiasm for the content. The course itself has a very relaxed format, with no formal papers or exams, but rather group projects and summary cards from readings as the main form of assessment, which I enjoyed.

As a survey course, it definitely felt rushed at times, but Professor Povitz provided the class with interesting readings that felt applicable to in-class lecture. She places great emphasis on in-class discussion, whether that is speaking in front of the class or within small groups, and it definitely made for an engaging class period. Overall, Professor Povitz is one of my favorite professors at the college and dabbles in many areas of history, but it's clear that she is passionate about this course in particular! She is also a wonderful professor to talk to during office hours about class materials and is helpful in clarifying assignments expectations.

This course was super interesting, and Lana was super engaging in her teaching style. There was a significant amount of reading for this course, though the first week was particularly heavy in order to weed out students not committed to the amount of reading.
