Doran is very passionate about the topic he teaches. His syllabus was very clear, and the assignments were somewhat creative (vocational). The content was definitely valuable and interesting, but the workload could be too much. If you chose to be a critic, the writing would be a lot, but it doesn't count toward a CW credit.

I took this course for the philosophy distribution requirement, but Doran made everything very interesting and engaging. He's a great lecturer and is very fair with his essay grading. Our midterm and final were a unique format where you take the test and then defend your answers, but they ended up being a lot easier than they sounded.

I just took this class to fill a distribution requirement, but it ended being one of my favorite classes last semester. Doran is a phenomenal lecturer and really knows what he's talking about. He tended to bring in real world problems that may not have necessarily been involved with the course, but I loved that. Reading every week, but you don't have to read that thoroughly. Two exams that are pretty easy if you study and if you do well on the first essay you don't have to write more.
