Julien Weber
FREN
To be honest, I feel very neutral about this class and this professor. My French writing abilities improved a lot, but my speaking skills definitely got worse. It was not a hard class and some of the readings were interesting.
Weber is super fun. This class is a great chance to improve your writing skills in French. Every class is basically just a discussion, so it's definitely important to do the readings (which are usually relatively short poems, chapter excerpts, or film reviews). Participation is key.
Professor Weber is clearly incredibly passionate about this class, which makes sense seeing the degree of specificity of the course. He is so knowledgeable and the class is a fantastic way to tackle french literature from a new and fresh perspective. The lack of classic texts such as Baudelaire (whom I am very fond of) was a bit disappointing, but the selection of varied and less-known texts was certainly a refreshing change. Also, the professor just knows his stuff, and while interpreting the texts may be a bit of a challenge at times, Weber is very good at directing you in the right direction when it comes to class discussions or writing your papers.
