Jessica Teets
One of the most challenging classes I've taken at Middlebury. However, it is probably also my favorite class I've taken here. She teaches through PowerPoint presentations that are very detailed, and you learn a lot of relevant information about China and its place in world politics, supply chains, and influence. There were a lot of dense readings assigned, but the readings were very interesting and not essential to understanding what was happening during lectures. The topics we learned about during lectures were very relevant and allowed me to contribute to conversations about global politics and gain a better understanding of some of the headlines we see in the news.

Professor Teets is amazing!!! She is so down to earth and breaks down a really opaque political system into a clear structure with clear motivations. The way the course is structured, you get a crash course into the political system before diving into specific issues, which makes everything super manageable. The texts she selects are really interesting and she grades very fairly.
The professor explains the basis of Chinese politics and their government system. We wrote an essay exam. The second half of the class addresses issues in China, and students do presentation projects along with the professor's lecture on a specific topic. The class is made up of three projects that determine the final grade.
