Professor Teets knows what she's talking about, full stop. She has a near-encyclopedic recollection of readings and arguments in the literature about authoritarian regimes- how they come to be, how they have modernized, and how they tend to strategize and behave. This class was a lot of reading and writing, but it was a CW, which I find to be fair looking back. But know there are many readings per class period and they are roughly 20 pages each, usually. Overall, this course has helped me recognize when regimes have authoritarian tendencies on the world stage, even when they are trying to hide or mask it. Professor Teets' class has, in this way, changed my worldview and I am a more informed global citizen now. It gave me tools to articulate international threats when I see them. Put aside time to read and write for this course, but I recommend it. I actually learned from this class.

HEAVY on the reading. It is also a CW, so naturally expect a lot of writing as well, especially towards the end of the semester. She is an amazing professor who shown impressive knowledge and is always open to have conversations and go over class material during her office hours. She is lovely in general and an impressive person.

I was quickly surprised by this course, as I did not expect to spend most of the semester doing actual research in the field. The first portion was dedicated to lectures about various qualitative methods, and the second portion was for applying a specific one of those methods while researching. Although at times learning about the methods themselves was quite dry, Professor Teets was always engaged with the material and effective in her lecturing.
