This class was super chill right until we got the results from our first paper. It was clear that Strtak had completely different writing expectations from the students and she let that be known. We didn't get our first writing assignment back until week 9, and at that point we only had 2 weeks to write our final paper. Many of my classmates and I scrambled to meet with her in office hours, but found her completely booked and with extremely limited office hour time windows. Talking to my fellow classmates, we felt blindsided by the expectations of the writing and were unable to even discuss with her or refine our writing before the end of the semester.

I needed to take this class for my major, and was quite skeptical about how it would go. However, I heard great things from other History majors about Professor Strtak, and they fortunately exceeded my expectations for the class. It's very discussion-based, with a lot of reading, but the professor does a very good job of engaging with the students and makes the classes much more enjoyable than most. Overall, I think its a good class to take for any history majors, would recommend.

This course is predominately lectures and weekly reading. There are a couple major writing assignments which can be graded a bit harshly, but if you give yourself enough time beforehand and go to office hours it is very manageable. Professor Strtak is very passionate about the topics she teaches and it shows through her lectures.
