This course is defiantly one that will give you a grasp on how to both write and learn history effectively. While the course may be fast pasted, the content learned more than makes up for the increased reading and note taking needed. Harsh grader on papers a little.

I found this class okay. It was lecture-heavy, with 2 assignments, a quiz, and a final that covered the whole class. I enjoyed the lectures a lot and thought the slides were very detailed. The discussion was a little boring.

Professor Strtak is a kind, genuine, and witty human being. I absolutely loved this class—it is incredibly engaging, and you explore the many ways s*x, gender, the patriarchy, and government customs shaped the early modern world. Even if you’re not a history fanatic, you’ll learn something fascinating. From early modern medicine to gender bias and social norms, this class truly covers it all. Professor Strtak takes the time to get to know every student. She is understanding, accommodating, and deeply committed to helping her students grow. Her expectations for papers are fair and clearly communicated, and you will definitely develop as a writer. Her feedback is always thoughtful, and during the writing workshop portion of the course, she is incredibly hands-on—walking you through revisions and helping you strengthen your work. I will go out of my way in the future to take another class with her; she is truly an exceptional professor. During the hardships of this past semester, especially after the unexpected loss of Lia, Professor Strtak went above and beyond. She checked in on us regularly, spent time with us outside the classroom, and genuinely showed how much she cared—not just about us as students, but as people. Very few professors demonstrate that level of compassion. Her kindness meant more than she will ever know.
