PDEs was a challenging but eye-opening class. Jen is a fantastic professor-- personable and accommodating, but she expects a high quality of work from her students. The reflections and micro-assignments got to be annoying at times, and Jen took about a month to grade our assignments in the end, but overall I enjoyed this course. Class would often consist of a short (albeit dense) reading beforehand, lecture for about 80% of the class, and group work for the last 20%. Jen is very organized in her style of lecturing which I very much appreciated. She also knew how to engage the class -- it was not your typical "silent" math class. Office hours were where the real learning happened -- though they were frequently packed (as in, students sitting on the floor) and it would have been helpful to have had them extended. I quite enjoyed the style of examination -- we had a 48 hour take-home with four questions and an oral exam which tested our knowledge on the subjects. The material was fascinating. Overall I would take this course again!

Professor teaches slowly and exams are exactly like practice materials. If you just take notes you’ll be fine. Projects are a month long each but not too difficult. Two exams. Your participation doesnt matter for grading.
I really enjoyed taking linear algebra! It is very different from calculus, which I have taken in the past, so it was nice to learn more about a different area of math. We had large problem sets once a week, but we learned enough in class to cover them. The material on exams was all discussed in class lectures.
