Jeff Munroe
This course was the best class I have taken in the ECSC department. Jeff is a truly fantastic professor and incredibly knowledgable on all things quaternary geology. The majority of labs were field-based often with sample collection that we would then process during the next class period and write a lab report with the data. I really enjoyed the structure of the course and the hands-on nature!

Jeff has super interesting and engaging lectures and highly values student participation. I often looked forward to class because it felt like a very open and supportive environment. That being said, there is a lot of information to go over in this course and the exams focused on a lot of material. I highly recommend this class, but on exams make sure you write down everything you know because he grades responses on a curve.

This class was really fast-paced but also super engaging, and Jeff’s enthusiasm for geology made it something I looked forward to every day. The labs were hands-on and fun — we did everything from soil analysis to quarry visits — though they could feel a little tedious at times. There wasn’t any homework outside of the weekly labs, and no textbook, which made studying for the broad exams a bit tricky, especially since Jeff doesn’t post slides. He’s an incredible professor: very knowledgeable, passionate, and helpful, but definitely a tough grader. Overall, I loved this class and thought it was a great introduction to Earth & Climate Sciences.
