James Sanchez
I love Professor Sanchez! This class nicely supplemented my FMMC major, and really solidified my interest in documentary filmmaking. It is obviously mostly theory and analysis, but the final project is creating a documentary of your own, either individually or in a group. The final screening was really fun. Prof. Sanchez also assigns several papers that he allows you to revise if needed. He is a slightly difficult grader, but all feedback is helpful and right on.

Combination of fiction and non-fictional readings helped develop rhetorical analysis (aim of this class). There is lots of class discussion and every other week an assignment due- half of the assignments can be reviewed and the better grade submitted. This is so good for improvement as it gives students more opportunities to polish their writing and analysis.
I enjoyed this course. I found the material a bit repetitive, but I think this is a result of there not being that many published academic papers on the topic. It was interesting for the most part, but sometimes the topics did get old. The actual classes were divided between discussions and some writing teaching to fulfill the CW requirement. I felt like the actual work was below average in terms of difficulty and Professor Sanchez encouraged us to rewrite our essays.
