This class felt a bit more fast paced than in previous terms. I would usually spend a few more hours practicing characters and organizing course notes for Chinese after each class but this term I was busy and I didn't take any notes whatsoever. I was just fine-- if you pay attention in class, review the characters often, and make use of the office hours if you get at all confused, it'll be all good. The teaching style is very effective and the classes are fun, I would always look forward to learning more!

Intro Chinese definitely isn't for those hoping to quickly fulfill the language requirement. However, if you are excited about Chinese, it can be one of the most rewarding classes you'll ever take and is a great way to make friends if you stick with it. The work for this class is not as difficult as people make it seem; it just takes a lot of time and memorization. Staying on top of the vocab is crucial, as well as being ready to participate in class. The professors are caring and want you to succeed, but they don't tolerate misbehaving/cheating/not being ready for class. Because Chinese is pretty from English and has a reputation for being tough, I think the teachers put extra effort into making it fun, and it was cool to experience Chinese cultural activities like calligraphy, painting, songs, and poems.
