Frank Van Gansbeke
Frank is an extremely passionate instructor. The class is about how to make the international finance architecture (mainly IMF and World Bank) more ecocentric and equitable. The course started with two lectures by him breaking down the international finance system, followed by a series of guest lectures that explain how the IMF and WB are inadequately handling crises that the world is facing (perspectives heard include African, European, South Asian, Food-Systems, and Health-Systems). The semester ends with 2 group presentations and two written assignments: 1) a presentation about specific reform recommendations for the IMF and WB; 2) a group presentation about a topic in international finance 3) written deliverable of the first group presentation 4) defining a term used in international finance. The class was pretty easy and no previous finance knowledge is needed

Professor Van Gansbeke is an outstanding instructor. His passion for the subject makes his lectures engaging, and he brought in excellent guest speakers to enhance the learning experience. Despite having no prior finance background, I thoroughly enjoyed the class. He was incredibly supportive and approachable during office hours. While his board writing can be hard to read and his slides a bit cluttered, his lectures are clear, though fast-paced. Make sure to take thorough notes, attend office hours, and put in effort on essays and presentations. I would definitely take another course with him.

Mind you, this is a a fast paces class but Frank is very passionate about the work that he put together. This class is lecture heavy and it is mostly discussion heavy. Grading is super chill and everyone was doing super fine in the class.
