Evie Munier
I took French 205 the semester prior to taking 209, and honestly they felt very similar. The level of what we read was not higher, nor did our discussions feel more sophisticated. There was usually a reading assignment and related discussion post to complete for each class, and then class discussions were typically verbatim repetitions of what we had written for homework. The bright side is Prof. Munier was always happy to see the class and created a very warm and welcoming environment.

What bothered me most about this course is that Professor Munier fostered a classroom culture where disagreement with her extremely leftist worldview was discouraged. I am very liberal myself, and I often feared to express my own opinions in class knowing that she would consider them unacceptable. The course content only included very leftist readings, which leads to a very incomplete knowledge of contemporary France. I feel that all I learned from this course was far-left French political dogma with no substance or analysis to back it up, and this course has made me unenthusiastic about taking French in the future, and I think that if anything, my French skills have deteriorated as a result of taking this course
