I am an HARC + PHIL joint major, so I was naturally drawn to this class. The lectures were interesting and she was a great teacher, but the tipping point with this class were the quizes. They absolutely sucked. It would be 3 buildings / pieces picked at random and you had to go into detail on all of them, with the last one being a longer response. There were two of these and the final exam was the same structure, but it was impossible. It turned out fine, but you definitely had to lock in the entire day before and get it done. If you're able to stay on top of the reading and really take amazing notes in class, then you can get by, but if you play catch up with this course, it will pile up and suck.

This course is super informative and provides a broad understanding of modern architecture. The lectures are very fast paced and require a lot of note taking. Her exams are times (30 minute midterms and 1.5 hour final) and are open note. They are definitely a time crunch, but if you prepare and organize your notes well I found that they are largely straight forward. Prof Sassin is very kind and informative. She is quick to respond to emails and always open to talk after class. I would recommend this course to people who are willing to seriously lock in during class and who put in the work to prepare for tests.

i found the content interesting yet struggles to consistently show up to class. Good notes during lectures and reading are key to success for the quizzes. There are two heavy weighted quizzes which are open notes.
