This is an unavoidable major requirement for biology majors. Fortunately, Prof Moody has designed the class with a workload that is quite manageable, with each lab assignment being like 2 pages in length and weekly problem sets designed to take a bit longer than a normal class period. You will learn introductory stats tests and their non parametric counterparts, but if you’re looking for more than that you might want to see if you can get credit for something through the stats department.

Eric Moody is awesome. I enjoy his approach to teaching; he is very easy-going but still gets the information across. The field labs are very chill and fun. His assignments are a bit open and kind of on-your-own, but manageable with prior knowledge in writing lab reports. I would highly recommend taking Aquatic Ecology with Moody for a chill senior year biology lab course.

I took this course because it was required for my major, though the topic itself wasn’t my favorite. Professor Moody is very enthusiastic and does a great job covering and explaining all the key points in his lectures. Each week included a group discussion session based on a problem set completed beforehand, which turned out to be an extremely useful resource when preparing for exams. Keeping up with the readings and focusing on understanding the key terms as you go along definitely makes life easier. That said, the class is very doable, and earning a good grade is realistic as long as you do the work.
