Topics in Biotechnology In this seminar course we will discuss primary research articles on current topics in biotechnology, or the harnessing of molecular biology to solve problems and cure diseases. We will look into new developments in therapies, as well as challenges still unsolved, and ethical dilemmas. Topics include DNA and RNA gene therapy, gene editing, the many uses of antibodies, how therapies can be directed to the correct part of the body, and how researchers are targeting proteins that are "undruggable". This course consists of reading a paper for each class period and doing a journal club-style discussion. While this may get boring at times and perhaps may not be your idea of a fun J-term class, it is great practice for anyone interested in biotech or medical research in the future. Prof. Stivison is super nice and the grading is chill.

Professor Stivison is amazing! She knows so much about this field and shares this knowledge very effectively. We learned how to read scientific articles and got to research topics of interest to us. I highly recommend taking a class with Professor Stivison, you will learn a lot without too much stress. Additionally, she is so kind and amazing to get to know.
