Such a fun class. 12 weeks are spent learning everything about the Bayeux Embroidery, super cool if you enjoy being extremely knowledgeable about niche subjects. There was a total of three papers and one final reflection paper, all manageable with ample time given to complete them and several resources provided. Prof Garrison is amazing and anyone taking any of her classes should ATTEND OFFICE HOURS!!! so so helpful.

She was pretty good. I learned a lot from her, not just about the material itself, but also about how to approach learning in general. She had this way of breaking things down that made even complicated topics seem manageable. Whenever I didn’t understand something, she didn’t just give me the answer—she guided me to think it through, asking questions that made me reconsider my assumptions and connect ideas I hadn’t linked before. Over time, that helped me become more confident about tackling challenging problems on my own. What stood out most was her patience and clarity. She never made me feel rushed or embarrassed for not knowing something, which created a comfortable space to ask questions and make mistakes. That kind of environment really helped me absorb the material more deeply. She also shared useful study habits—like organizing notes, reviewing small sections regularly, and focusing on understanding rather than memorization. Those techniques have made a big difference in how I study now. Beyond academics, she was encouraging and genuinely cared about my progress. She reminded me that learning is a process, not a race, and that persistence is often more important than immediate success. Prof. Garrison is a joy to be around and is inclusive of everyone's level and experience in the world of Art history. She is willing to cater to everyone's needs and was always making sure everyone was in good spirits. I believe she made a very strong effort to make a close connection to each of her students as well. Readings are not entirely necessary but I felt like even getting a skim in was helpful to be engaged in class and not feel completely lost.
