David Dorman
MATH
The class wasn’t terrible. I find other (non-calculus based) math more fun and interesting, but if that’s your jam, you would love this class. There were 3 problem sets due a week, so beware. Tests were okay, pretty fast paced.
Abstract Álgebra is a very foreign class that is deep in jargon. The class was fairly small and early in the morning so most people are pretty tired, meaning Dorman lectured for the majority of the class. His lectures were okay- some were better than others. There are also 2-3 problem sets due a week, so beware.
This class is an easy A, and Professor Dorman is very kind. However, I struggled a bit with his teaching style and found his handwriting hard to read. Linear Algebra is a highly visual field in math, so understanding the concepts can be challenging without clear visual explanations, which I felt were lacking here. That said, you don’t need to be a pro at linear algebra to succeed—the tests are take-home, which makes it more manageable. If you take this course, you’ll likely get a good grade, but I recommend supplementing with extra resources. *3Blue1Brown*’s Linear Algebra series on YouTube was incredibly helpful for me!
