I have mixed feelings about this class. While on one hand, I enjoy working with my hands, I find the class to be tiresome. With projects for nearly every class, and it being self-paced, it is easy to fall behind. What’s more, congestion with the equipment can become an issue, as there is only so much. It is worthwhile if you want a base level of exposure to many ways of creation, but you can also get stuck doing tasks that feel less than exciting. I would recommend this course, but be sure you will enjoy spending 6 hours a week in class.

This course teaches you to use all the tools in the maker space. It is a great class for anyone trying to get into project work and learn something new. It is done at your own pass with work outside of class only if you fall behind. I would definitely take again Prof Houghton is very passionate and always willing to help.

This course is very interesting and you will learn a ton about how to operate various hand and CNC or CAD machines. It is very interesting if you are at all interested in any type of design. As can be expected though learning how to do the most basic things on a ton of different tools is not going to be the most interesting work. However once you get later in the semester and get to design your own stuff the course becomes a lot more fun. Professor Houghton is very accommodating and super knowledgeable, however do expect a lot of work outside of class, as well as mostly "try again and you might figure it out" style of teaching, which can be very frustrating if you're very stuck. I would not like to take this class again as learning is so tedious, however I am very glad I did take it and now have those skills. I think it should be mandatory if you're an architecture major as it will definitely help you on design projects.
