Daniel Fram
I took this course to explore the Poli Sci department. Professor Fram is definitely passionate in his field, and he did a great job making the topic interesting. He was great at asking though-provoking questions that added depth to the conversation. I felt that the selection of readings was interesting, and they were intriguing. Though I really enjoyed Professor Fram, I will never take another poli sci course. The readings/quantity of readings from this class made me seek out an attention deficit diagnosis for the first time in my life. Consequently, I struggled immensely to understand the readings/books, despite reading them 2-3 times. That aside, if you find political philosophy interesting, or already know you don’t have issues reading, don’t let my warning disuade you. Regarding the discussions: I found the discussions interesting because you got to listen to classmates essays and their engagement in the content. I really enjoyed the conversations that Professor Fram moderated and engaged in during the discussions. The midterm and final is the majority of the grade weight. I found the exam questions were relevant to the course content and what was discussed. However, they are graded very harshly. Perhaps harshly isn’t the right word. They aren’t graded harshly if you just look at it as if he is expecting an incredibly detailed answer. He expects a detailed answer and the entire story behind it. On the plus side, he allows corrections on the midterm, and he curved the final, as the grades were low. Overall, I don’t feel this course was for me, but I absolutely think Professor Fram is a fantastic professor who is passionate and interested in his course.

The material presented in this course was very engaging, and Fram is a brilliant lecturer. The real challenge of the course is that he is also a very difficult grader--the final exam was possibly the most difficult exam I've ever taken, and the class average on the midterm before the curve was a low C. If you are worried about your GPA, don't take this course. If you're willing to challenge yourself and maybe lose your 4.0, go for it.

Daniel Fram is a real character (and not necessarily in a bad way). His lectures are extremely long-winded, but his observational sense of humor (which I found strikingly similar to Jerry Seinfeld) makes them bearable. While the readings themselves are interesting, especially for the critically thinking mind, they are lengthy and abstract, and I would highly recommend employing AI to help interpret them (despite his stern qualms against doing so). What really ruined this course for me was Fram's poor gauge of grading and feedback. Fram has a real "DIY" attitude toward revisions and rarely gives any helpful feedback on assessments. This theme wasn't just isolated to my experience, but many of my peers in this course, who would also complain that he was very dismissive during office hours. This course is easily passable, but for the "A Grade" minded overachiever, Fram's inconsistent attitude toward grading may put you on edge for the duration of the course.
