Daniel Brayton is an excellent professor, with tons of enthusiasm. He keeps lectures and discussions fun and engaging, which helped me remember class material. Papers were short and based on personal experience and class readings, so they never took too long to write. This is a great class to take if you're an ES major or generally interested in environmental literature. Readings include Silent Spring, Walden and a Sand County Almanac, but participation is totally optional so it's not necessary to read every page. My only complaint is the size of the class; at 40 students, it's hard to have rigorous discussions.

Dan Brayton is one of the most engaging and passionate professors at Middlebury. Our class lectures were often complex, and I appreciated his effort to make the material we learned relevant to current events. He is extremely accommodating, but not exactly an easy grader.

Hard grader but very passionate about the topic. He made lectures feel short, and the readings are very relevant and interesting. He is very accomating with deadlines and will allow for essays to be resubmitted at times.
