Daniel Brayton

I took this course as an ES cognate and really enjoyed it! Professor Brayton is definitely passionate about maritime literature and culture and this made the class fun and interesting despite the sometimes difficult readings. It's a literature class so obviously is reading/paper heavy but there is a wide variety of texts that I really enjoyed and while professor Brayton is a tough grader he is very helpful and will improve your writing greatly.

I had a great time in this course. Dan is an incredibly engaging and knowledgeable professor, and I learned a lot about writing and reading. Would 100% take again - probably my favorite course I've ever taken.

I really enjoyed this class, and Dan clearly enjoyed teaching it. The reading material was interesting, and ranged from old poems to classics to a very modern book. The class is basically just readings, discussions, and papers. We had readings every day and had productive discussions which Dan moderated, but let the students do most of the talking. We only had a couple papers which he graded not easily, but very fairly, and we could do revisions on them.
