Dan Suarez
I enjoyed environmental justice in the Anthropocene, definitely heavy depressing topics but I learned a lot. The format of the course was mostly lecture with some small group discussions and the homework was reading heavy with a few short essays.
Conservation & Env. Policy is a necessary course for ENVS major but one I think everyone should take with Professor Suarez if possible. Not only is he super passionate about the subject and material, but he is also super knowledgable, accomodating, understanding, and fair in his grading. The assignments are interesting too, with no exams -- incorporating a research paper in which you interview your local government officials and there current env. policy plans.

This course was really disappointing for me. I’d been looking forward to taking it since freshman year, but the lectures ended up being dull and not very informative. Some of the projects were decent, but the overall class vibe felt dry—no one participated, and the slides and lectures were repetitive without adding much substance. I think the course could’ve been much more engaging if it were discussion-based and had more active facilitation. I expected Professor Suarez’s background and research to make the class exciting, but unfortunately, it didn’t live up to those expectations. If possible, I’d recommend taking this course with a different instructor.
