Chialan Sharon Wang
Wang Laoshi and He Laoshi were both excellent professors who are both fun and caring towards their students. Homework ranged between very simple writing responses (<30 minutes) to surprisingly long assignments (~2 hours). Lectures were the highlight of this class thanks to the enthusiasm of the professors and the speedy-yet-forgiving nature of the course.
There is one movie to watch every week, some weeks there are two movies, and usually a reading that accompanies the film. Weekly discussion posts for the first half of the course and the last two weeks. The class usually begins with some context for the film such as background on the directory, style and artistic motivations for the film, as well as the history taking place in the background in China and Chinese speaking areas. The kind of writing she is looking for is completely different than any other kind of writing that I had to and that was difficult.
