Carolyn Finney
I took this course because past reviews held this class in very high regard. Those reviews were not wrong in the slightest. Professor Finney is extremely passionate about her teaching and is such a lively, energetic, and wonderful professor to be around. Despite the class being about three hours, her attitude made it not difficult to tolerate, but actually enjoyable. Over the course of the class, you are assigned weekly readings and have to post comments and questions on each reading as homework. In class, we would typically have a guest speaker speaking about their experiences related to the environment, which was always interesting. We only had 2 other "big" assignments, which were an Environmental Autobiography where we write about our relationship with the environment, and then our final presentation, which she encouraged us to be creative and deviate from our "standard presentation," which was actually pretty fun!

Fascinating class. Definitely weird and radical but the reading where always thought provoking. oftentimes finney would talk for a really long time and take away from the group discussion but its only because she is so passionate about the work.
My favorite part about this class was having constant guest speakers. I really loved how Finney didn't hesitate to platform other speakers and folks we generally wouldn't have heard from in the classroom. Only take this class if you're willing to discuss vulnerable topics and share your opinions and feelings. It's a great way to investigate yourself in the context of the climate crisis.
