Bert Johnson
This class surveyed the current landscape of American democracy through exploration of current political trends, and assessed how those trends may affect the future of US democracy. It touched on polarization, urban and rural divides, issues of race, as well as institutional concerns (politicized judiciary, expanded presidential power, etc.). Professor Johnson is an engaging and fun professor who is deeply passionate about the subject material. The main assignments for this course are 4 response papers, as well as a final policy paper. For those interested in studying American politics, this class is rich with insightful material. I highly recommend taking this course, or any other course, with Professor Johnson.

I highly enjoyed Bert Johnson's Intro to American Politics class. There wasn't homework due for each class, only readings to be completed for the Friday discussion section. The readings can be lengthy and time-consuming, but they are overall interesting and he sometimes told the class which ones to focus on for discussion if people were overwhelmed with work. The 2 papers were graded fairly and he gave constructive feedback. He is a super nice person and clearly loves what he is doing. Highly recommend taking this class.

The course was interesting, and Professor Johnson was clearly very knowledgeable and passionate about the content. The only real homework was the readings and a couple of papers. At times the class could be a little dry.
